Another night on the job...

Today I'm working at Station 1, which is located in downtown silver spring. This station is typically one of the busier stations in the county; they run their fair share of interesting calls, and today has been no exception. I'm driving the medic unit today, and we actually haven't run that many calls, but the few we have run have been exciting. The first good one was for a guy having trouble breathing. Sometimes trouble breathing calls are not that significant, but this one was. We got there and are met by a guy who was literally gasping for breath. His pulse was almost 200bpm (WAY too high) and his blood pressure was about 80/60 (WAY too low). So we hurried him into the medic unit and rushed him down to the hospital. Fortunately, the medic riding in back was very good and got the guy to stabilize.

As soon as we finished that call, we got another one for a pregnant woman who was apparently thrown out of a third story apartment window to the ground. We got there and sure enough, she was laying on the ground next to the apartment building. The police were there, along with a huge crowd, and there was another ambulance and fire truck there assisting. We got her loaded up into the medic unit and took her down to the trauma center in DC. Her left leg was definitely broken (confirmed after seeing an initial full body X-ray of her) and she was screaming in pain. She only spoke spanish, but you didn't need to understand one spanish word to know that she was hurting. The police were trying to figure out whether she was indeed thrown out the window or if she jumped out; apparently they were getting too different stories from the people on the scene. A cop even came to our station (he just left a minute ago) asking us questions about the call! I tell ya...never a dull moment. And the night isn't even over! I'm about to go to bed, but I'll post anything else exciting that happens.
